School Partnerships

To help students experience the value of inter-community cooperation, we train suburban middle school students to write/illustrate children’s books and to read those books to K-2 students in urban schools. It is heartwarming to observe the animated, respectful connections that emerge between kids from two very different communities.

To help urban teens develop mentoring and leadership skills, we train select high school students to read to young students at an elementary school. An unexpected but welcome dividend of this initiative?  Several teen-mentors begin thinking about teaching as a possible career!
