The Middle East Institute is an annual conference designed to educate the community and foster understanding about current topics relevant to Israel and the Middle East through experts with varying perspectives and backgrounds. It is the Jewish Community Relations Council annual showcase event and fundraiser which provides the necessary funding for our Israel Advocacy Initiative, Understanding Israel program, Teen Training programs and our Israel Educational Forum.

David S. Bross, Esq.
Teen Israel Advocacy Leadership Award:
From 2017 until 2020, Bari was a staff writer and editor for the Opinion section of The New York Times. Before joining the Times, Bari was an oped editor at the Wall Street Journal and an associate book review editor there. For two years, she was a senior editor at Tablet, the online magazine of Jewish news, politics, and culture, where she edited the site's political and news coverage. She regularly appears on shows like The View, Morning Joe and Real Time with Bill Maher.
Bari is a proud Pittsburgh native and a graduate of Columbia University. She is the winner of the Reason Foundation’s 2018 Bastiat Prize, which annually honors writing that “best demonstrates the importance of freedom with originality, wit, and eloquence.”
Her first book, "How to Fight Anti-Semitism," was a Natan Notable Book and the winner of a 2019 National Jewish Book Award.
David S. Bross, Esq. is a long-serving active member of the Israel Advocacy Initiative of the Jewish Community Relations Council. Most recently, he co-chaired this past Fall’s Israel Education Forum, and co-presented the “Understanding Israel” program at the JCC. David chaired the Jewish Federation’s first “Mens’ Gala,” featuring Alan Dershowitz, as well as subsequent Galas and a series of “Mens’ Outreach” events. He serves on the Southern New Jersey boards of AIPAC and the Jewish National Fund, where he chairs the Jewish Lawyers for Israel section. David and his wife, Caryn, are Life members of the Raab-Goodwin Holocaust Museum and Education Center. David also regularly volunteers for Jewish Family & Children’s Services as a personal shopper and driver.
Professionally, Mr. Bross is Of Counsel to Bross & Frankel, the disability benefits law firm which he founded in 1995. He lectured frequently for many years at CLE programs, during which time he was continually selected by his peers as a Disability Benefits “Top Lawyer” in various local publications.
Sydney Rowan is currently a senior at Cherry Hill High School East. Throughout her high school experience, she has participated in many different leadership and Israel education opportunities, including BBYO, JLEAD, and Ambassadors.IL.
Sydney also attended last year’s AIPAC Policy Conference with the South Jersey delegation. She is honored to receive the Teen Israel Advocacy Leadership Award and looks forward to continuing her advocacy and support of Israel as she enters college next year.
