Advocacy Mobilization in Support of Our Jewish Federation During the Coronavirus Pandemic

PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SENATORS TODAY (BEFORE SEDER) AND URGE THEM TO TAKE THE FOLLOWING FOUR STEPS TO HELP FIX THE PAYCHECK PROTECTION LOAN PROGRAM:

ALLOCATE at least $250 billion in additional funding for the PPL Program;

SET ASIDE a significant amount of that new funding within the PPL Program specifically to help nonprofits;

ALLOW larger nonprofits (those with more than 500 employees) to participate in the PPL Program; and

URGE Senators McConnell and Schumer to include these provisions in Thursday’s bill.

Please make a phone call, send an email, and/or post on your social media channels before seder tonight!

SAMPLE CALL SCRIPT

Senator, thank you for your leadership in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and for supporting the CARES Act which provides funds for hard-hit small businesses. It was a good start toward recognizing and addressing the needs nonprofits face now, but the reality is that more will be needed. Organizations such as Jewish Federations and Jewish human service agencies, that provide food, medicine, and other basic needs to hundreds of thousands of people every day, remain unable to access those funds and deliver the lifesaving services that people of all faiths and creeds need. I am calling to ask you to urge the Senate to support at least $250 billion in new funding that will replenish the oversubscribed SBA Paycheck Protection Loan Program, while setting aside some of that funding specifically for nonprofits, and permitting larger nonprofits with more than 500 employees to access the program. I am counting on you to help sustain their vital work. Will you deliver this message to Senate leadership? Thank you for your time.

Dear XXXX,

I am involved in our local Jewish community and want to thank you for the work you have done to demonstrate leadership during this time of need and, in particular, for your support of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act and the Paycheck Protection Loan (PPL) Program.

The CARES Act was a good start toward recognizing and addressing the needs nonprofits face now, but the reality is that more will be needed. Organizations such as Jewish Federations and Jewish human service agencies, that provide food, medicine, and other basic needs to hundreds of thousands of people every day, remain unable to access those funds and deliver the lifesaving services that people of all faiths and creeds need.

If relevant, please describe any difficulties that nonprofits in your community have had with banks in applying for the PPL funds.

As the Senate considers emergency legislation to replenish the Paycheck Protection Loan Program, I urge you to include

  • Accessibility for nonprofits that have more than 500 employees;
  • At least $250 billion in additional resources for the PPL Program;
  • Funding that is set aside specifically for the nonprofit sector.
